COLVYNN

Character Design

Process:

For their countless adulteries against the Lord, His closest confidant, Colvynn, was banished into the depths of Hell. With their voice suffocated and their eyes singed, Colvynn is left alone to wander its vast abyss. They deceive and seduce the few travelers they cross for any means of sensory gratification. However, the reciprocation always resolves with scorched corpses left in their wake.

In this project, I created a fallen seraph by exploring the subject matter’s opposing characteristics. Seraphim are known for their voices, eyesight, and modesty, so I brainstormed the idea of creating my demon blind, revealing, and possibly mute. I also took inspiration in Catholic teaching, where Hell is a representation of separation from God and weaved it into their narrative and final design. I went to Catholic schools for 14 years, which is more than half of my life. It was enjoyable to explore these themes in a different light and I might investigate this theme a bit more in the future!
